One Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident Near Willowbrook Mall

A man died in a hit-and-run accident that took place in Houston on Sunday, March 15. According to the details shared by the authorities, the driver involved in the incident has since been arrested and charged.

The tragic accident took place close to the Willowbrook Mall in Houston. As the driver charged with the accident drove across the FM 1960 street, he hit a man pushing a bicycle across the street. The driver failed to stop in time, hitting the pedestrian with bicycle who was critically wounded. The victim died from his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident.

The driver who caused the hit-and-run accident has since been identified by the authorities as Arturo Perez-Gallegos, 33. Gallegos was later apprehended, arrested and charged by the authorities. He has a previous history of having had a run with the law. In 2016, he forced an entry into the apartment of a woman who is the mother of his child. Gallegos hit the woman. He was later charged and sentenced for nearly one week in prison. He was later deported with his status designated as an illegal alien.

Following his arrest in the present accident, Gallegos displayed clear signs of intoxication according to the authorities. Test results that will confirm whether or not there was alcohol in his blood at the time are yet to come.

Meanwhile, authorities have already charged him with driving while intoxicated (DWI) with child passenger as well as failure to stop and help following an accident resulting in death. Both are serious charges for which Gallegos is likely to face stiff penalties. The first charge is a state felony in Texas which carries a prison sentence of 6 months to 2 years as well as a fine of up to $10,000.
