In a two-vehicle accident that took place on Saturday, March 21, two individuals lost their lives while another was injured. The incident happened in the Shelby County, a few miles from Center.
According to the details shared by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the crash was reported in the early morning hours. Authorities were notified of the incident at around 2:20 a.m. It was caused when a driver traveling southbound on the U.S. 96 crossed the center line and came into the path of the oncoming traffic. The driver has since been identified as Jordan Shisler, 28, of Center. Shisler was driving a 2008 Pontiac passenger car at the time. Shisler also had a passenger in his car at the time of the collision. This passenger has been identified as Jasmin Cavazos, 20, also of Center.
As Shisler crossed the centerline, his vehicle was struck by a northbound 2007 International truck tractor semi-trailer. The truck struck the Pontiac in the passenger side. Both Shisler and Cavazos sustained critical injuries in the accident. Once authorities arrived on the scene of the crash, they were pronounced dead. Among the departments and agencies that responded to the crash was Texas DPS and a Shelby County Justice of the Peace.
The driver of the International which had struck the Pontiac also sustained injuries. He was taken to a hospital in Center for medical treatment. However, it has been reported that his injuries weren’t very serious and he was soon released from the hospital. The driver has been identified as Jasper Houston, 30, of Frison, L.A.
The accident remains under investigation. At this moment, it isn’t clear exactly what caused the Pontiac driver to veer across the center line and cause the crash. More details about the incident are expected once the authorities conclude investigations.
